    The Minnesota Department of Health on Thursday provided an update for people wanting to eat what they catch in the state’s rivers, lakes, and streams. The new guidelines are related to PFAS chemicals found in fish in ten of Minnesota’s counties. Known as “forever chemicals”, PFAS are linked to developmental issues with infants and immune systems in older children. They may affect liver function and increase cancer risk.

    Help finding where to launch a boat from, regulations, and maps of places to drop a line in the water are now only a mouse click or tap on the screen away. The Wisconsin DNR unveiled its Wisconsin Fishing Finder online resource website for angling in the state. The site provides information on a variety of items including a guide to public lands and easements, lake habitat information, fish stocking details, and where the nearest DNR service center is located.

    A new program offered through Great Rivers United Way provides people with a way to get digital access.  Working with the United Way of Wisconsin, Great Rivers United Way (GRUW) plans to distribute more than 700 no-cost laptop loans through the Techquity WI program. The program runs for the next two years. The first event was Wednesday at the La Crosse Public Library. GRUW was providing 50 refurbished laptops to people who made appointments to pick up a computer.

    The driver of a semi had critical injuries after a hay bale blows off of a passing trailer and hits his vehicle early Tuesday afternoon near Eleva. The Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Office said that just after noon, a semi heading south on Highway 93 was passing an oncoming truck and trailer hauling large square hay bales. As they met, a gust of wind blew a bale into the windshield of the semi. The driver lost control of the semi and jackknifed it which blocked both lanes of traffic.
