NAIROBI, Kenya, April 18 – The government has banned the importation of 11 Chinese cigarette brands for violating the Tobacco Control Act 2007 and Tobacco Control Regulations 2014. Some of the brands include RGD Blue, Huangshan, Harmonization, Septwolves, Naijing, and Guiyang, among others. The Tobacco Control Act 2007 provides a legal framework for controlling tobacco products, including their production, sale, labeling, advertising, and sponsorship.

NAIROBI, Kenya, April 16 – The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has waived Sh158 billion in penalties, fines, and interest for 2.9 million taxpayers under a tax amnesty program, which was launched in December last year. The initiative, which will end on June 30, 2025, has seen the taxman collect Sh10.9 billion in principal tax payments.

NAIROBI, Kenya, April 14 – Prices of super petrol, diesel, and kerosene have been reduced by about Sh2 per liter for the next month in the latest Energy & Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) review. According to the latest EPRA figures, a liter of petrol will, starting at midnight, fall by Sh1.95, diesel by Sh2.2, and kerosene by Sh2.4.Consequently, a liter of petrol will cost Sh174.63, diesel (Sh164.86), and kerosene (Sh148.99) in Nairobi.

APRIL 14 – A trial in the landmark antitrust case against social media giant Meta kicks off in Washington on Monday. The US competition and consumer watchdog alleges that Meta, which already owned Facebook, bought Instagram in 2012 and WhatsApp in 2014 to eliminate competition, effectively giving itself a monopoly.
