InterpretationWe found that the use of nirmatrelvir–ritonavir in Ontario between April and August 2022 was associated with a significant reduction in the odds of hospital admission from COVID-19 or all-cause death with a NNT of 62. Our findings were consistent across most strata of age, drug–drug interactions, vaccination status and comorbidities; however, the absolute risk reductions were substantially lower in younger patients and those at lower risk of severe COVID-19.
