Did Sam Raimi help Doctor Strange? Or Marc Webb Snow White? Or Gavin Hood X-Men: Origins? Or David Fincher Alien 3? Or Rob Marshall with…any of his Disney films? Or…well, you get the idea. When someone is hired to direct a franchise film it’s a for hire job.
