The Pro Burnout and Open classes at Rare Spares Rockynats went gangbusters, with around $30K in cash on the line across both classes, and 20 cars throwing down in Sunday afternoon’s Pro-class final. Torrential rain leading into the event had us all guessing if any rubber would be blazed at all next to Rockhampton’s Fitzroy River, and after Friday evening’s first qualifying run was postponed due to a soaked pad, things weren’t looking good.

Joe Bauer’s just had his second big win at a ‘Nats event with his thumping 1968 Dodge Charger, taking out the coveted Rockynats Champion title at Rare Spares Rockynats 5. The imposing, slammed R/T already has a Street Machine Summernats Grand Champion title in the trophy cabinet, taking out the top gong on debut after a grand unveiling at Summernats 36.

Rare Spares Rockynats 5 has already been the biggest one to date, and after a huge Street Parade of over 1100 cars burling through the centre of Rocky infront of a packed crowd, we got stuck into the elite unveilings at the showgrounds. Covers were pulled off seven cars, seen in public for the very first time.

This episode of Carnage has Scotty continuing on with our little TA Torana, as he works towards getting it back together and working as a car again. In the last couple of episodes, Scotty broke out our brand new Kemppi welding gear to fix a few rust issues we had in the car. With that sorted, this week’s edition sees him turn his attention to the engine.

The Pro Burnout series is ready to light up Rockhampton for Rockynats 5 on 4-6 April, with a bumper field of over 30 cars to throw down in pursuit of three Pro Burnout tickets to Street Machine Summernats 38. Taking place just off the Fitzroy River in one of the most scenic places to hold burnouts in the country, the pad will be firing up on all three days.

This episode of Carnage welcomes back our sleepy, 1UZ V8-swapped Toyota Lexcen wagon, as Scotty prepares it to run nines!To date, the Lexcen’s PB is 10.31@136mph. It also completed Optima Ultimate Street Car last year with great success, so it’s a great all-rounder. However, a major barrier to it running nines has been high intake air temps. Even with a big Proflow intercooler in the front of the thing, it’s an issue that’s plagued the car under full noise for a while.

Queensland’s biggest car festival is set to get even beefier when this year’s Rockynats descends upon Rockhampton, 4-6 April 2025. Those dates place the event during school holidays but not over the Easter break, which means everything will be open and ready to go.
