For the Rancho Cotate baseball team, this postseason’s Cinderella story had the perfect ending. The Cougars, seeded third in Division III, completed one of the most magical postseasons in area history by beating top-seeded Roseville 2-1 on Saturday afternoon to capture the program’s first-ever Northern California title. Not bad for a team that entered the North Coast Section playoffs last month as the No. 15 seed — before making it all the way to the section title game.

Casa Grande’s season came to a conclusion on Tuesday, falling to Lodi 3-0 in the first round of the NorCal Regional Division 2 tournament. The loss ends a stellar campaign for the Gauchos, who finish the season at 21-9 overall, including a VVAL co-championship and a third-place finish in the North Coast Section Division 1 bracket. “I’m really proud of this group,” said Casa Grande head coach Pete Sikora.

For the third straight season, Cardinal Newman softball is an NCS champion. After winning the Division 4 title in 2022 and the Division 3 title a year ago, the Cardinals (22-6) can now call themselves the Division 2 champion after a 12-8 win over Carondelet on Saturday afternoon. “Definitely not expected, and it takes a lot of luck,” Cardinal Newman head coach Bill Vreeland said.
