In an absolute pitchers’ duel, Justin scored once in the third and again in the fifth. Braeden Butler scored both runs, on a single by Tommy Malloy in the third and on a wild pitch in the fifth.

No. 2 Windsor 14, No. 3 Maria Carrillo 13In one of the wildest softball games of the season, Windsor (18-5) held off Maria Carrillo (14-10) late in Tuesday’s contest to advance to the North Bay League Oak division tournament championship game. Windsor was up 8-0 before Carrillo came storming back with 13 unanswered runs to lead 13-8 after the top of the sixth and final inning. The Jaguars then scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth to retake the lead for good.

After three days of swimming and diving, the North Coast Section championships wrapped up Saturday with several local competitors doing well enough to advance to the state meet. It was an eventful three days, with local talent putting up stellar performances across the board as they looked to book their tickets to the CIF championships in Clovis this coming weekend. In total, seven North Bay athletes are heading to the state championships, with two of them doing so in multiple events.

Cardinal Newman 2, Benicia 0: Facing one of the top teams in the North Coast Section, Newman (14-10) got crucial runs in the fourth and sixth innings Saturday to pick up a big nonleague road win in their regular-season finale. Jamie Vozaitis got the scoring going in the fourth when his single to second scored Matai Fa’agata, who led Newman at the dish with two doubles on the day. The Cardinals doubled their lead in the sixth, when Madden White hit a sacrifice fly to left that scored Caden Owen.
SRJC baseball team reaches Northern California title series with another playoff sweep

Another sweep, another step closer to the state championship series for the top community college baseball team in California. The Santa Rosa Junior College Bear Cubs routed Folsom Lake 11-2 on Saturday to advance out of the super regional round of the playoffs — and improve to 43-1 overall, having dropped just one game all year. Up next is the California Community College Athletic Association’s Northern California championship series this coming weekend against Sierra.

Oscar and Peggy Rodriguez stood right beside home plate on Maria Carrillo’s baseball field, watching as head coach Greg Boitos walked up to them from the dugout. In Boitos’ hands was a framed No. 12 Pumas jersey, black with gold pinstripes. “Oh, my gosh!” Peggy Rodriguez exclaimed as the coach unveiled the gift — identical to the one Peggy and Oscar’s late son, Patrick, wore throughout his early-2000s time at Maria Carrillo.
