Iatrogenic venous injury can be devastating. The majority of existing epidemiologic data related to venous injury are in the setting of trauma. Iatrogenic injury data is limited. The large veins in the retroperitoneum and pelvis are often challenging to repair due to their anatomic position, and their high-flow, low-pressure nature allows for profound blood loss when injured. Endovascular repair with stent graft placement has been used in both traumatic and iatrogenic settings with success.
