In my defense, my last communication was something of a sign-off, in which I did say that I might not be writing regularly for the next little while. But, in case you missed the memo, it’s January, which seems like a pretty organic time of year to think about fitness and weight loss and what have you.

Kim Downey:Pulling into my driveway, I grabbed a handful of envelopes from the mailbox, one of which was from my doctor’s office. I could tell it wasn’t a bill, and I became anxious.
