SPRINGFIELD - A severe ice storm wreaked havoc on large parts of southern Illinois earlier this week, closing schools and leaving thousands without power. In response, Comptroller Susana Mendoza Thursday issued payments totaling more than $17.7 million dollars earlier than originally planned. This comes at the request of Senator Dale Fowler, R-Harrisburg who informed the Comptroller of the dire circumstances facing southern Illinois.

I’ve filled the humidifiers and found the missing, yet essential, bedtime stuffed animals. I just have to read a story, and I’m done for the day. I can see the finish line in sight. Then my precious angel comes toward me holding the chosen bedtime story. My heart sinks. It’s that book. You know the book I’m talking about. It’s the longest book my kids own.

When I was in kindergarten, I received a note on my report card that said I talked a little too much during school. It broke my heart. Five-year-old me vowed I would never break the rules. I would never disappoint anyone. I would be perfect. I became a very good girl, a pleasure to have in class—a people-pleaser. Farmers need to have the required reflectors and flashing lights and they should be free of any debris, according to Trooper Josh Robinson.
