SEOUL, Jan. 17 (Yonhap) -- Supporters of detained President Yoon Suk Yeol staged overnight rallies in front of the Seoul Western District Court on Friday, where investigators were expected to file for a warrant to formally arrest Yoon. People in support of Yoon gathered outside the court late Thursday and locked arms in an attempt to block investigators from delivering documents requesting the warrant to the court. A man in his 20s was detained at the scene after pushing a court employee.

CHANGWON, South Korea, Jan. 16 (Yonhap) -- A court on Thursday sentenced three men accused of murdering a South Korean tourist in Pattaya, Thailand, to prison terms ranging from 25 years to life imprisonment. The Changwon District Court sentenced two men, aged 28 and 40, to life imprisonment and 30 years in prison, respectively, and handed down a 25-year prison term for a 27-year-old accomplice on charges of robbery-murder and body abandonment.

SEOUL, Jan. 16 (Yonhap) -- Civic groups continued to stage rallies for or against impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol on Thursday, a day after he was detained by investigators over his short-lived imposition of martial law. A network of progressive civic groups, including the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, one of the country's largest umbrella labor unions, said they will continue to hold weekly Saturday rallies near Gyeongbokgung Station until Yoon is removed from office.
