The student body of Crescent City Grade School presented its spring concert to a packed gym on Wednesday, April 30. Director and organizer of the concert is Rachel Pueschell, who was assisted by Michael Pueschell. The kindergarten and first grade students sang some of their classroom songs, in addition to "Yankee Doodle" and "Trepak." Their props included multi-colored scarves, tubes and sticks.

Iroquois County Historical Society conducted its annual meeting Sunday, April 27, in the courtroom of the Old Courthouse Museum. Heading the meeting was Diane Gagnon, ICHS president, with secretary Stephanie Bowers recording minutes. Several improvements have taken place over the past year. The last of new storm windows for the museum were installed, a leaky pipe in the veterinary room was replaced and a radiator in the ceiling removed.

Though the weather was looking uncertain this past Saturday, it didn't dampen the spirits of about 75 children who took part in the annual Crescent City Easter Egg Hunt. The event takes place each year on the Saturday before Easter at Heritage Park. There were several prizes and one grand prize basket in each of the five age groups. Winner of the grand prize basket in the under 2 group was Kip Redeker, son of Kaylea and Boyce Redeker, of Crescent City.

Forty-four Crescent City Grade School students were recognized for their achievement in the Hawks Reading Challenge. Each nine-week period, students read in order to reach or surpass a set goal of reading time. Hawks Reading Challenge organizer is Julie Dunn, librarian at CCGS. She announced the names and presented certificates to each student. Recognized as not quite reaching their goals were kindergartener Myla Cox and second grader Maverick Cox. Each received a cookie for their efforts.

The board of education of Crescent-Iroquois CUSD #249 met Monday, March 17 in the board room at Crescent City Grade School. Steve Massey, board president, called the meeting to order at 7 p.m. Secretary Jody Niebuhr took roll call with the following members present: Massey, Tim Kollmann, Becky Dirks, Leigh Medina, Candi Butzow and Niebuhr. Also present was superintendent/principal Lucas Schroeder.

Each year, the second grade students of Kristin Marquis at Crescent City Grade School receive an assignment to research an animal and then build a habitat diorama for it. This year's students recently completed their projects and they were amazing!Addison Giasson's project was on the wood duck, of the bird family. The wood duck lives in the wetlands, tall grass and swamps of central and eastern United States where its main enemies are raccoons, snakes and owls.

For several years, Tonia Wengert, fourth grade teacher at Crescent City Grade School, has her students present the play "Ahoy, Columbus!" This year's play was presented Friday, Feb. 28 in the classroom. The play is quick-moving as it covers the story of Christopher Columbus, as a child, who was interested in the sea. The play re-enacts the time he approached King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella to ask for funding for his venture to finding new land.

A winter concert was presented to a large audience Thursdsay, Jan. 30, in the Crescent City Grade School gym. The concert was under the direction of music instructor Rachel Pueschell. Technical assistance was provided by Michael Pueschell, with Tori Legan assisting students. Kindergarten and first grade students performed "10 Little Snowflakes," "Chubby Little Snowman," "I'm a Little Snowman," "5 Snowmen" and "Rudolph." They used silk scarves and handbells during some of their songs.
