Vincentians have been witnessing frequent droughts which cause rivers and catchments to dry up, affecting our water supply. During the rainy season, heavy rainfall can cause sediments to block CWSA pipes, landslides can also destroy their pipes and this would result in water problems. Can groundwater be a solution?

Farmers feed us with nutritional food that helps to mitigate against non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and hypertension. Some of the food they produce is exported which brings in foreign exchange into the country and contributes to the gross domestic product (GDP). When a farmer plants his or her land with crops, these crops would require nutrients to maturity and for the farmer to make money.

In some people’s view, rivers should be used as a dumping ground for their garbage while others use them as a cemetery for their animals. We need to change this mentality about rivers. Rivers play a critical role in our daily lives.
