There is little that is genuinely surprising when it comes to the intersection of politics and culture. They have always been blended and consumed, but not quite to this extreme. All things outrageous have only increased in recent years. In some ways, that social starting point began when Barack Obama came onto the national scene. It was ramped up to an unbelievable degree once Donald Trump offered himself up as a candidate in 2015.

Abortion remains a contentious issue in American politics. One can easily argue the intensity only increased since the Dobbs decision on June 24, 2022. That decision immediately impacted the midterm elections. Republicans, led by Donald J. Trump, are still disappointed by the 2022 election results. The expected "red wave" did not materialize. One year later, during off-year elections, more disappointments came. Striking down Roe and Casey did not produce a pro-life America.

As a successful, popular leader in his state and current GOP presidential candidate, Gov. Ron DeSantis is often portrayed as a villain by the national media. After DeSantis signed the Parental Rights in Education Law, some in the media shared hyperbolic accounts of LGBT Floridians fleeing the state or considering it, as if their very lives were threatened by the legislation.

According to polling, former President Donald Trump is clearly the Republican candidate to beat. His GOP opponents are so far behind him, most only poll in the single digits. The only candidate in double-digit territory is Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL). That middling position would set some up to be selected as the vice presidential running mate. But neither DeSantis nor Trump seems interested in joining forces. And that's actually a good move by the young governor. CONGRESS ESTABLISHED ELECTION DAY.
