The Belvoir St Theatre has showcased a great deal of exciting new material in recent times, and continuing in that vein is their showcase of Big Girls Don’t Cry. Written by Gumbaynggirr/Wiradjuri playwright Dalara Williams (who also stars in the show), the play centres around three First Nations women in Redfern, 1966, who confront the daily realities of job precarity, police harassment, love and friendship as the gear up for the Debutante Ball.

City Recital Hall is one of the best venues in Sydney for live music and so it’s no surprise that it is the venue of choice for many of the artists coming down to Australia for Bluesfest this week for their Sydney side shows. Kicking off the festivities for CRH’s “Switched On” series was Mark Broussard, a Louisiana native, who has made a name for himself with his unique blend of Southern soul, funk, rock and blues.

If there was ever a band that epitomised the British punk-rock movement, the Sex Pistols would be it. As a genre-defining band that has gone through more iterations than one can count, it was perhaps a surprise to see that the Hordern Pavillion was not packed for their performance, with most of the seats in the arena covered up and the mosh pit not feeling as cramped as it usually does.
