Max Chernin, a former Shaker Heights resident, will star as Leo Frank alongside Talia Suskauer as Lucille Frank in the national tour of “Parade,” the 2023 Tony Award-winner for Best Revival of a Musical. The tour will play 24 performances at Connor Palace at Playhouse Square in downtown Cleveland from Feb. 4 through Feb. 23, as part of the KeyBank Broadway Series. “I’ve always thought about what’s going to be the thing that brings me to Playhouse Square?” Chernin told the Cleveland Jewish News.

University Heights Mayor Michael Dylan Brennan will not seek a third term as mayor, he announced on Jan. 14. Brennan informed city hall directors and chiefs that he will not be seeking a third consecutive term as mayor in 2025, according to a news release. As a candidate for mayor in 2017, Brennan promised he could lead University Heights to “reach new heights,” the release stated. “It is a serious and consequential job,” Brennan stated in the release.

Former Akron Mayor Dan Horrigan was appointed to the position of Cleveland Heights city administrator at the city council meeting on Jan. 6, after a resolution introduced by Cleveland Heights Mayor Kahlil Seren confirming the mayor’s appointment of Horrigan into the position was approved. At the meeting, council members expressed their excitement for Horrigan to join the staff.

The Jewish Community Center of Greater Columbus will be hosting mahjong open play sessions once a month starting at 10 a.m. on Jan. 12 at 1125 College Ave. A Beginners Mahjong Series will also kick off on Jan. 10 at 10:30 a.m., providing an opportunity for newcomers to learn the tile-based game that originated in 19th century China. “Mahjong is a very well-known and community-driven game,” Eva Golden, program coordinator at Columbus JCC, told the Jewish Columbus News.
