A Glenrothes groundworker led police on a chase through Kirkcaldy after they tried to stop him for not wearing a seatbelt. Scott Johnstone sped off and carried out dangerous overtaking manoeuvres as he tried to flee. The 29-year-old eventually stopped the van he was driving and made off on foot but was caught nearby. Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court heard he was uninsured at the time.

A Stirlingshire man was hounded with shouts of “beast” as he was put on the sex offenders register for downloading hundreds of child abuse images. Andrew Strachan, 52, of Drymen, visited websites with names such as “Teen & PreTeen Girls JailBait Pictures” and “cute little girls”. He was told by a sheriff his actions directly contributed to the abuse of children. Stirling Sheriff Court how Strachan downloaded the images over a period of more than four years.
Perthshire care worker guilty of raping teenager

A Perthshire care worker is facing a lengthy jail term after for an 18-month campaign of abuse against a woman, including raping her. Taylor Whyte, now 21, was a teenager when he subjected the 19-year-old to the rape attack in New Alyth. The High Court at Stirling heard he had abused the woman at his home and at an address in Angus. During the abuse Whyte repeatedly made derogatory remarks towards the woman about her appearance and mental health.

A serial paedophile with the username “Luv A Te3n” engaged in a sickening web chat with what he thought was a 13-year-old girl. Mark Pentith was in fact exchanging messages with an undercover cop, Stirling Sheriff Court heard. The 56-year-old pled guilty to attempting to communicate indecently with a child between February 2 and 19 last year.

A teenage driver caused the death of a 57-year-old man in a crash on a major road between Fife and Kinross just days before Christmas 2023. Calum Anderson was just 17 when he drove a van onto the wrong side of the A977 and into the path of George Mitchell’s car. The now-20-year-old appeared at Stirling Sheriff Court and pled guilty to a charge of causing death by careless driving. He will be sentenced next month.

Alexander Hope – appearing in court the day before his 39th birthday – will serve a further two years on licence when his four-year term behind bars ends. The paedophile was caught by a hunter group after engaging in foul chats online with a fake child and a police raid uncovered his stashes of illicit abuse material. He was placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely.

Chilling details have been read in court of the moments a Dundee man stepped back from drowning a baby. Jay Dixon held the tot’s head under water before waking the child’s sleeping mother to tell her he “tried to drown him but I stopped myself”. A convicted paedophile plucked a young girl’s image from the internet then sent it to a woman, claiming it was his daughter and asking if she wanted him to perform a sex act on the child. Archibald Smith’s sick move came shortly after he sent a video of himself masturbating to the woman. Fiscal depute Sarah Smith told Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court the woman met Smith on the Badoo internet dating site and their conversation moved to Snapchat.
