Chilling details have been read in court of the moments a Dundee man stepped back from drowning a baby. Jay Dixon held the tot’s head under water before waking the child’s sleeping mother to tell her he “tried to drown him but I stopped myself”. Last week, Dixon – formerly of Turnberry Avenue – pled guilty carrying out a catalogue of attacks on the baby before it was a month old. He also admitted courses of vile domestic abuse against two women in Dundee.

A convicted paedophile plucked a young girl’s image from the internet then sent it to a woman, claiming it was his daughter and asking if she wanted him to perform a sex act on the child. Archibald Smith’s sick move came shortly after he sent a video of himself masturbating to the woman. Fiscal depute Sarah Smith told Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court the woman met Smith on the Badoo internet dating site and their conversation moved to Snapchat.

Brian Smillie, who appeared on television to persuade the BBC show’s team to invest in his tech business, went to the woman’s house five years after their split. She was woken in the middle of the night by a loud banging and looked out her window to see masked Smillie holding a hammer next to her car.

A motorist caught with three joints on his car dashboard during a police stop in Stirling was found to have a further £1,400 of the drug in ready-made bags. Linkes Hysa was also driving with more than four-and-a-half times the legal limit of cannabis in his system. Stirling Sheriff Court heard the 30-year-old was stopped shortly before 5pm on Bannockburn Road.

Michael McGlynn began targeting children in 1984 and continued offending against until 2005. A judge praised the courage of women who came to court to testify against McGlynn after he denied a series of charges during an earlier trial.

A drink-driver had to be pulled from his blazing car by workers after crashing at roadworks on the A9 near Dunblane. Anthony Todd had downed half a bottle of rum before the crash in the early hours of the morning on August 28 last year. He failed to see a set of traffic lights and hit the back of a waiting car, before veering off the road. Drunken Todd’s Citroën C3 burst into flames and he had to be helped from the vehicle.
