EASTON — At its May 27 meeting, the Talbot County Council took the following actions:Unanimously passed a final budget ordinance for fiscal year 2026 in the amount of $161.1 million. Council OK'd an amendment package with a handful of adjustments, including an additional $600,000 in funding for Talbot County Public Schools. Presented a proclamation to Chesapeake Music for its 40th anniversary. Permitted the return of $400,000 in grant funding to the state.

EASTON — Talbot County made good on its promise to deliver a flat, conservative budget for fiscal year 2026. The County Council unanimously passed a $161.1 million spending plan Tuesday. It comes in at nearly $3 million under last year's budget amid what County Manager Clay Stamp calls "uncharted waters.""The economic landscape out there is a bumpy ride right now," Stamp said.

EASTON — A serious crash on Route 50 Tuesday afternoon injured four people, according to the Maryland State Police. Just before 4 p.m., state police responded to a two-vehicle accident on Route 50 near Schwaninger Road. The crash was just south of Easton across from the Koons Toyota dealership. A spokesperson for the Maryland State Police said Wednesday the crash involved a truck and a minivan. Both drivers were flown to TidalHealth Peninsula Regional in Salisbury for treatment.

EASTON — A serious crash late Tuesday afternoon caused traffic backups and a temporary closure on Route 50 just south of Easton. Talbot County Emergency Services advised drivers in a Facebook post around 4:30 p.m. to avoid the area of Route 50 near Koons Easton Toyota. Police, fire and emergency agencies were on scene, staged on Route 50 near Schwaninger Road. Just after 5:30 p.m., the Department of Emergency Services announced all Route 50 lanes were reopened. This is a developing story.
