Published 6:00 pm Sunday, May 11, 2025 Pearl, a Shih Tzu owned by Luverne residents Sayge and Lane Sides captures hearts this week as Pet of the Week. At three-years-old, Pearl is shy – however Sayge Sides said that the sweet pup will eventually come around to guests but keeps her distance. “I got Pearl from someone who didn’t love her very much and she is still very shy from it,” Sayge Sides said.

Two seniors from Brantley, Highland Home and Luverne High School received a $100 award for their entry, sponsored by Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company of Luverne.

Published 6:00 pm Sunday, May 4, 2025 In honor of Financial Literacy Month, students across Crenshaw County took part in a hands-on financial literacy activity to learn more about budgeting and financial skills. The program, Your Money, Your Life, was held at all three Crenshaw County public high schools and partnered schools with Crenshaw County 4-H for a series of events aimed to teach seniors about budgeting using real-world examples and everyday issues.

The Festival at the Well will commemorate its 32nd year on May 17, bringing in live music and entertainment, arts and crafts vendors and more. What had begun as a birthday party for a resident of Glenwood has become a major fundraiser.

Published 6:00 pm Friday, May 2, 2025 Crenshaw County Schools announced new leadership in county schools for the next school year during the school board’s April 21 meeting. Two new principals, Tracy Baines and Clifton Pace, were welcomed to Highland Home School (HHS) and Luverne School (respectively). “Baines and Pace were selected because they are both highly experienced administrators who consistently demonstrate a strong commitment to student success,” said Superintendent Ashley Catrett.

Published 10:00 am Wednesday, April 30, 2025 This week’s Pet of the Week is Horatio, a playful two-year-old miniature schnauzer owned by Amanda Hudson of Dozier. “Horatio is one of the sweetest and silliest schnauzers around,” Hudson said. “He loves to play, loves his humans, and loves cuddling with them.” Hudson said Horatio loves to play fetch and brings the tossed toy back to be thrown again. Additionally, Hudson notes that any coffee within reach might have a sip or two taken by Horatio.
