A small, inconspicuous, central Kentucky business has several locations in Lexington that have been around for several decades, and one employee has worked in the little building off Ashland Avenue for about 17 years. Mike Acord, 70, currently works part-time at the classic John’s Run/ Walk Shop, but prior to that he worked about 10 years full time. Acord said he likes helping customers on the sales floor, especially seniors, and is not ready to give up his job just yet.

When Ty Osborne was a child, he humorously talked to his family in different voices, much to their amusement and occasional irritation. One day, though, Osborne’s mom surprised him with a microphone. First lady Britainy Beshear was honored with the Community Leader Award at the 19th annual Coretta Scott King of Ivy Awards on Jan. 13 in Lexington. The event hosted by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Beta Gamma Omega Chapter honors local women who exemplify the Spirit of the Ivy, strength and endurance, according to the Eventbrite website. Beshear was awarded for being a dedicated advocate for Kentucky families, according to a Facebook post made by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.

“Amanda Whites fosters confidence at the Kentucky Dance Academy” was produced during the 2023 Picture Kentucky Workshop in Frankfort, Kentucky, where students were randomly assigned subjects in the area to follow and complete a photo story over the course of four days. Children fill the rooms at the Kentucky Dance Academy in downtown Frankfort, a space dance instructor Amanda Whites uses to provide all children with the opportunity to grow and gain confidence.
