As I’m nearing the end of the walk-in closet project (which I hope to have finished by the end of this month), I’m starting to think more about our bedroom, which I’ll be tackling next. If you’re new around here, this is what our bedroom look like right now…This room used to be our home gym, which is why it has colorful striped walls. But it will soon be our bedroom.

I made a ton of progress yesterday on sanding the red oak hardwood floors in our bedroom suite! I didn’t get them finished. I’d guess that I’m about halfway through with the whole process. I started with 36-grit sandpaper since I’m removing a really dark finish, and I didn’t even get through that whole process yesterday. But that’s the hardest part (I’ll show you why in a bit), so the rest should go so much faster.

First things first. To answer the question most of you will have, yes, I’ve already been to Home Depot this morning (I left the house at 6:30am this morning) to rent the sanders to start sanding the floors in our bedroom suite today. Woohoo! But I wanted to share something fun with y’all that I’ve been playing around with the last couple of days, and that’s using Chat GPT for decorating and landscaping ideas.

I’m slowly but surely checking off projects from my punch list for the walk-in closet. Yesterday, I finished up sanding the patched areas on the ceiling drywall, primed the ceiling, installed three of the four closet hanging rods, and painted the ceiling. I’ll start with the closet rods. I absolutely love how these matte gold rods look against the blue cabinets! Installing these rods was pretty simple.

Yesterday, I worked on some really boring stuff in my walk-in closet, like sanding the drywall mud on the ceiling and getting it ready for primer and paint. I realized that this really did need to be done before I start on the floors, so the floors will have to wait until Thursday. Anyway, after working on the ceiling for a while, my back needed a break, and I desperately wanted to work on something fun. So I decided to add the tape lighting to the jewelry drawer and necklace bar area.

I spent all weekend finishing up the lighting in my walk-in closet. This turned out to be a much more involved process than I had initially thought it would be, but the payoff is pretty amazing!! I ended up having to crawl into the attic about ten more times to get it all finished, but it’s done! I shared the first part of this lighting installation process last Friday where I cut the holes for the new slim canless LED downlights that I wanted to install.

I made quite a bit of progress yesterday on adding the additional lighting to my walk-in closet, but I didn’t get it finished because I ran into a pretty big problem and had to find a workaround for it. Until now, this room has only had one light in the ceiling, and that was the light attached to the ceiling fan. I don’t want a ceiling fan in this closet, so the plan was to remove the fan and replace it with a chandelier and then add several recessed lights to give additional lighting to the room.

Today is May 1st. I officially started working on this closet on March 12th. That means that I’ve been at this project for seven weeks. The whole bedroom suite has been underway for longer than that, obviously. It was at the end of last year that the general work began. It was at the end of last year that my mom and I cleared out all of the bedroom items, tore down the two closets that flanked the window, and got it ready for the contractor to do his part.

Last night, I cleared one of the major hurdles in this walk-in closet project. The cabinets are painted! This was a huge job with all of those shelves, but it’s finally done, and I can move on to the next step in this closet project. Here’s how they turned out…I took all of these pictures with the wide angle setting on my phone, which makes the room look larger (longer) than it really is. I mean, the room isn’t tiny. It’s 11’4″ wide and 15’10” long, but the wide angle does distort it a bit.

Well, I didn’t finish painting the cabinets yesterday. Ugh. Yesterday morning, I had it in my mind that the cabinets on the right side of the room were completely finished, and all I needed to do was paint the cabinets on the left side of the room. So when I started working, I began by doing all of the parts that had to be done with a brush – cutting in around the corners and painting the top trim.
