The contract briefly touched EUR 83.25/MWh in the morning session, on the EEX, the lowest level since 10 April. However, it last stood at EUR 85.05/MWh, up EUR 1.10 on the day. “This is not a trend reversal, we continue to see a bearish market,” said a trader, noting power prices were “once again” following gas and carbon movements. Recently, further risks related to the conflicts in the Middle East and between Ukraine and Russia have been priced out, he said.

The front-year contract was last seen EUR 0.45 higher at EUR 90.90/MWh on the EEX, after hitting a six-week low of EUR 89.54/MWh earlier. Over the course of last week, the contract had shed around EUR 6. The front month was last seen up EUR 1.03 at EUR 84.24/MWh, holding above its five-week low of EUR 80.87/MWh reached last Thursday. Last week, risks were being priced out, while speculative traders were taking profits, said a portfolio manager.

Peak solar generation should be subdued by cloudy conditions next week, ranging from 21-28 GW, said Ubimet. Average solar output should be around 6 GW, more than 20% below the seasonal norm, according to MetDesk. In the week from 16 September, however, solar generation should pick up again, reaching an average of around 8.7 GW. Montel Analytics pegged the seasonal average for the next fortnight at 9.2 GW and 8.6 GW.
