Police have confirmed at least one death, but it was unclear if the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The Hawick Fire sparked off the 14000 block of Hawick Drive near El Cajon, according to Cal Fire.

LAKESIDE, CA — Crews continued working Friday to contain a wildfire that has blackened hundreds of acres and forced evacuations in eastern San Diego County. The blaze, called the Monte Fire, sparked shortly before 3 p.m. Tuesday in the 15000 block of El Monte Road, just east of El Monte County Park in Lakeside, according to Cal Fire. As of 9 a.m. Friday, the fire has burned 1,049 acres and was 35% contained. "Firefighters continue to make progress and containment is now 35%.

A new study from Point2Homes showed that 203 suburbs across the country's 20 largest metros now have more renters than homeowners. With more people leasing their homes than owning them in these communities, the line between city and suburb continues to blur.
