CARLTON — The former superintendent of Carlton Public Schools received over $60,000 in additional income from the district that may have been authorized by a committee but was never approved by the full school board, an investigation concluded. The report also reveals a second multifaceted complaint was made by a staff member against former superintendent Donita Stepan. It questioned Stepan's counting of enrolled students and required instructional hours in reports to the state.

Co-student of the year Kyri Benton recounted her journey "from active drug user and dealer to drug and alcohol counselor in training." She had just two months of sobriety when she started FDLTCC classes.

CLOQUET — Councilor Shiela Lamb will likely cast the deciding vote on where marijuana dispensaries can open in the city. With Lamb absent Tuesday, May 6, the City Council deadlocked 3-3 on a zoning ordinance regulating marijuana sales and production business locations. As the state prepares to begin allowing marijuana sales, local municipalities have some decisions to make.

CLOQUET — John “Jumbo” Forneris was homeless, fighting cancer and desperate just a few years ago. He had contacted multiple organizations looking for housing and no one could help, he said. Someone suggested he try the Outreach Center in Cloquet. Within two months, Forneris had an apartment and a new community of support.
