A nurse has been suspended after stealing medication from the palliative care unit at a Northumberland hospital. Jay Short was employed as a registered nurse by Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust when she took four different medications from Wansbeck General Hospital Palliative Care Unit in Ashington. A misconduct hearing heard how Jay, who was employed by the trust in May 2022,did this one or more occasion between July 1, 2022 and November 30, 2022.

A man is in a critical condition in hospital after being punched at a pub in South Tyneside. Police received a report, via the ambulance service, that a male in his 40s required required medical treatment for a serious head injury at the Lakeside Inn near Fellgate Estate, Jarrow. Officers were contacted about the incident at around 10.45pm on Saturday night. It was reported that, during the assault, the victim was punched by another man.

Warm weather is set to make a welcome return across the North East this week. The sun is set to make an appearance from Monday, following a chilly few days and nights. The temperature will also increase with expected highs of 18°C on Monday and 21°C on Tuesday. Forecasters predict that it will be largely dry with warm sunny spells by day, but chillier with areas of mist and fog possible overnight. It could be cloudier on Thursday, with some coastal mist possible.

The grieving mother of an 18-year-old boy murdered by a gang of 10 teenagers has succeeded in her fight to get the Knife Angel sculpture to his home town. Jack Woodley, from Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, was stabbed twice by a group of males, aged between 15 and 18, while at Houghton Feast in Houghton-le-Spring on October 16, 2021. He was rushed to hospital where he tragically died the next day.

Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden has opened up about the uncertainties of having children following her battle with cancer. The professional dancer was diagnosed with grade three breast cancer last year after finding a lump in her breast. She made the discovery a day before jetting off to Maldives with her husband Ben Jones on their honeymoon. Wales Online reports how the 34-year-old had hoped that surgery would resolve the issue.
