Starting June 25, Monument Health is enacting limited visitation at its Rapid City Hospital Women’s and Children’s Center. In a Facebook post, officials said the restrictions are to protect families—especially newborns who are not old enough to be vaccinated—from the measles virus. Visitation limitations include:Only one support person is allowed for expectant mothers. Only two support individuals are allowed for child patients.

South Dakota receives $1.9 million as part of another settlement with drug manufacturers, according to Attorney General Marty Jackley. This time, the payment is from Janssen Pharmaceuticals—the pharmaceutical arm of Johnson & Johnson. In 2021, Johnson & Johnson agreed to pay states more than $5 billion over a nine-year period for its role in fueling the opioid crisis. With the latest payment, the state has received more than half of the $9.3 million expected from Janssen.

South Dakota is expected to receive more than $10 million as part of a settlement with Purdue Pharma and its owners, the Sackler family, according to Attorney General Marty Jackley. The $7.4 billion settlement ends the litigation against the company for its role in fueling the opioid crisis. “South Dakota families have suffered because of this company’s involvement in the opioid drug crisis,” said Jackley.

The Department of Veterans Affairs officials say the agency is offering grants to organizations that assist with legal services for Veterans who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. With $42 million available, organizations can apply for grants of up to $500,000, funding operations for two years starting this October. The funds are part of the Legal Services for Veterans Grant Program.

Prior to that---the Director of Nursing Education for seven years at Des Moines Area Community College and LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas. She holds a doctorate from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
