The American presence in Berlin runs deep. From the American sector in the Cold War era to the American expats populating the hip bars of Neukölln. American sports, American brands, shop signs, cars, Carhartt workwear and Yankees caps… This presence is so strong and natural that sometimes it’s almost impossible to notice. With the presidential election surrounding us the past weeks the focus automatically gets sharper.

Late summer is my favorite time of year. I am back in the city from the holidays. Rested, tanned and happy. And so is everybody around. The weather is still good, the days are long. Picnicking, going to the lakes, reading in the sun, grilling. The in-between-moment before real life starts again. Summer in Berlin by Alphaville. Usually this time lasts for just a couple of beautiful days and then fall starts brutally kicking in. This year this moment lasted for almost the entire September.
