A former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Mohammed Uwais, has died at the age of 89. A family source, who confirmed Uwais’ death, said the retired jurist died on Friday, June 6, 2025, in Abuja. Preparations were said to be underway for his funeral prayer and burial. Born on June 12, 1936, Justice Uwais served as the Chief Justice of Nigeria from 1995 until his retirement in 2006.

Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja, has admitted three videos in the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), as evidence, including one, where he is seen inspecting a radio transmitter allegedly smuggled into the country. During the trial, Kanu alleged that he made statements to the Department of State Services (DSS) under duress, sometime in October and November 2015.

A group of lawyers and civil society organisations (CSOs) embarked on a civil protest in Abuja, demanding the immediate resignation of Engineer Farouk Ahmed, the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) chief executive officer.
