Not to be dramatic, but interviewing Heather Gay and Whitney Rose from The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City might’ve been the best day of my life. In case you weren’t already aware, Real Housewives is a massive part of my existence. These women are very important to me.

LAUREL is not what you expect. And that’s how she likes it. Since 2014, when she was a leading indie-pop darling, LAUREL has been slowly defining who she wants to be. PALPITATIONS is her arrival. Her final form, so to speak. The sweeping sophomore album is an adrenaline shot to the system. At the end of last month, we asked how you were feeling about Australian politics right now. The responses were grim: 89 percent of you didn’t feel inspired by politics; 83 percent had no confidence that the Labor Government would address your issues; 93 percent felt unrepresented. That didn’t sound good, so we decided to take your concerns to the seat of power. That’s right, Junkee went down to Parliament House. During Budget Week, no less.

When I saw the video of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese making Sarah Williams, an anti-sexual violence advocate, cry, I was horrified. What the fuck was he doing? The man in charge of the nation was making a woman cry at a women’s safety rally protesting the murder of 43 women by men. How ironic. Albanese brushed off the controversy by saying it was an “emotional” day, declining to apologise to Sarah, but “wishing her well”. I was furious. It was yet another letdown from Labor.

Today, we mark Human Rights Day with a simple message: human rights apply to all people, without distinction, no matter who you are. Human rights underpin peace and security, and are central to realising sustainable development.
