A family from Whitefish Bay First Nation received a helping hand from some locals after their pow wow regalia was stolen as they were passing through Sault Ste. Marie. Although some of the stolen items remain unaccounted for, Rhonda White is tremendously thankful for all the people who stepped up to help her family recover most of what was taken.

A 37-year-old motorist from Wisconsin is facing impaired driving charges after Algoma police allegedly caught them operating a vehicle with an open bottle of whiskey on Highway 17. East Algoma OPP officers on patrol in the North Shore Township spotted the suspect around 9 p.m. Thursday, noticing that the vehicle was having difficulty maintaining its lane and was travelling at varying speeds.

A chunk of March Street, between Queen Street and Albert Street, will be closed for three days starting Tuesday to complete work on an existing water main in the city’s downtown core. Access to businesses on Brock Street, between Queen Street and Albert Street, will be maintained and motorists are advised to obey all signage in the area. All this work is being done as a part of the Queen Street Improvement Project, which has been ongoing in downtown Sault Ste. Marie since late May.
