Greetings, StormCloud! I apologize for being away for a bit. The last couple months have been a bit of a blur for me personally- it’s pretty crazy to say this, but as of April my wife and I have managed (since January!) to get pregnant, experience a miscarriage, and promptly got pregnant again and are entering the ninth week of said pregnancy. We’ve gone through the whole gambit of emotions, and being a proper steward to this page took a backseat for some time.

When the Pittsburgh Steelers signed offensive coordinator Arthur Smith this offseason, it signaled two things:A lot of running the football, and a lot of throwing to tight ends.

Rashawn Slater was a polarizing prospect for pundits during his pre-draft process. He garnered plenty of attention with impressive videos from the Northwestern weight room, one featuring him front-squatting 450-pounds for reps. And although Northwestern’s schedule wasn’t regularly challenging Slater with top-end pass rushers, he dominated a game against Chase Young in 2019 that many scouts and pundits repeatedly cited as the leading example of his potential.

When Jeremiah Owusu-Kramoah entered the NFL Draft, the general consensus labeled him as a first round talent with a concerning lack of size for the linebacker position. He was revered for his versatility and instincts at Notre Dame, a player constantly in position to make impactful plays for his defense, and often getting the ball back in his offense’s hands.

The Los Angeles Rams have set the gold standard for creative roster building since Les Snead and Sean McVay were paired together in 2017. They have used their first round picks as trade assets to fill positions of need with high-impact veterans, and restock their draft capital coffers by letting players walk in free agency and stacking compensatory picks. Ernest Jones is one of many examples of players Les Snead has drafted with a compensatory pick that has become a key contributor for the Rams.

The Dallas Cowboys have benefitted from the best-valued contract on the defensive side of the football since 2021. Micah Parsons has been a star in Dallas since his first season, when he earned the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award and his first of two first-team All-Pro nods. He continued his excellence by following it up with the second first-team All-Pro the next season, and a second-team All-Pro selection in 2023.

When the San Francisco 49ers signed Charvarius Ward as an unrestricted free agent in the 2022 offseason, it was reported as a solid consolation prize to the J.C. Jackson and Carlton Davis signings. Two years later, Ward stands as the lone signing still with his team, as the Chargers ended up swallowing heaps of dead cap to move on from Jackson and the Buccaneers traded away Davis in the last year of his deal.

Robert Saleh has made quick work of turning New York’s defense into one of the best in the league, returning Gang Green to a level of defensive dominance reminiscent of the Rex Ryan days. Ryan’s defense was once anchored by two standout cornerbacks, when shutdown cornerback Darrelle Revis split the field with the ball-hawking Antonio Cromartie. Saleh has a chance to replicate this formula, but with a twist.

The Los Angeles Chargers have seen a near-complete overhaul of their cornerback room as J.C. Jackson fizzled midway through the second season of a five-year mega deal and Michael Davis’ subsequent departure in free agency. The only depth left on the roster, with in-game experience, comes from Deane Leonard and Ja’Sir Taylor, two late round picks from the 2023 draft that have been special teams standouts but inconsistent defensive contributors.
