It's hard to believe, but the start of the college lacrosse season is just days away. New England is home to 15 Division 1 men's lacrosse programs, and each one of them is in a different spot coming into this season. This is, with one notable exception, a year of rebuilding for all of those squads, as the extra eligibility afforded by the COVID years fades into oblivion. Still, the optimism of a fresh slate is wafting through the frigid New England air.

A star player at Whittier College, Kelly enjoyed a pro career in the National Lacrosse League and then a long stint from 2009-17 as the head coach of his alma mater. Now he teaches physical education and coaches boys’ lacrosse at St. Margaret’s Episcopal School in San Juan Capistrano, Calif. In a series of social media posts, he has detailed a different way of developing young players.

USA Lacrosse announced its Division II Men’s Preseason All-Americans on Wednesday as part of its 2025 preseason content rollout. Adelphi, the preseason No. 1, earned six All-America nods, headlined by first-team selections Kyle Lewis (midfield) and Dylan Renner (goalie).

Defending NCAA Division II champion Adelphi is the No. 1 team in the USA Lacrosse Division II Men’s Preseason Top 20, USA Lacrosse Magazine announced Monday. Adelphi’s title-game opponent, Lenoir-Rhyne is the preseason No. 4, as Limestone earns the No. 2 spot and Tampa comes in just behind the Saints at No. 3. Mercy rounds out the top five. Preseason rankings are compiled by USA Lacrosse Magazine staff and contributors with consultation from college coaches.

It’s hard to believe, but your favorite college team is already practicing and the first Division 1 game is set to face off on Saturday, Feb. 1. So it’s time to renew those streaming memberships, connect your tablet to the big TV and block off your 1 p.m. time slots.

New England is home to some of the best teams in all of Division 3 lacrosse. Everyone knows how good the NESCAC is, a notion reinforced last spring when Tufts won the NCAA championship. But there are plenty of other teams in the region coming off accolades and wearing targets on their backs. In fact, half of our preseason Top 10 is made up of teams that don't call the NESCAC home. Season openers are still a few weeks away, but these are the top D-3 teams in New England going into the spring.

With seven of its now nine member schools located in New England, the Division 2 Northeast-10 is home to the largest number of men’s lacrosse programs in the region. Last year, the winner of the NE-10 title went on to win the NCAA title, as Adelphi ran roughshod through its schedule backed by the D-2 Player of the Year, goaltender Dylan Renner.
