Underrated UK quartet Temples are touring to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their debut album, Sun Structures, and they recently played Union Stage at The Wharf. A collection of fuzzy, upbeat psychedelic-pop, the album went Top 10 in the UK but had a harder time making a dent on these shores. But the band has put in the work, touring the States on numerous occasions, including six previous DC shows since 2013. I saw them at U Street Music Hall in 2020 and thought they were fab.

My Morning Jacket’s recent show at Merriweather Poast Pavilion was the third time I’ve covered the band for this here blog and to be completely honest, I’m not sure I have much more to add from my earlier reviews. But I will say this: I absolutely love seeing this band play live. There is just something about their shows, whether it’s the monstrous riffs or the bouncy grooves they create, that gives off amazing vibes and makes me incredibly happy.

Sadly, I moved to the D.C. area in late summer 2004, too late to ever attend the classic HFStival at RFK Stadium. I watched it from afar on MTV over the years, wishing I could be there, but it never happened. So, I was excited when the announcement came through of the fest’s 2024 return at Nationals Park. Granted, that’s not the first place I’d think of to have a rock festival but I understand that having it in DC proper was probably a priority.

Earlier this year when it looked like Jarvis Cocker and Pulp were gearing up for a tour, I told my wife that if happened, I was going to travel somewhere to see them. In my head I thought it would be somewhere in Europe, but it turns out the band booked a few North American dates, and I was able to snag some tickets for last Friday’s show at the Kings Theater in my old hood of Brooklyn.

It’s not often these days that I go to a show and I am one of the younger people in the crowd. But that was the case last week when the indomitable Paul Weller performed at the Lincoln Theater. Weller — The Modfather, The Changingman, The Cool Before the Warm, The Calm After the Storm — was touring the US for the first time in seven years and had a backlog of new material to promote.
