The Milwaukee Brewers had a big weekend on offense, but fans who skipped the late innings of games might not have noticed. The Crew took a 1-0 lead into the sixth inning on Friday and a 4-0 lead into the eighth inning on Saturday before combining to score 21 runs in the final innings of those two games. Those 21 tack-on runs included all eight driven in by Christian Yelich on Friday, tying a franchise record.

As the Brewers head out on the road to face the Cubs this week, Christian Yelich might be traveling a little lighter than usual. If nothing else, he probably doesn’t need many gloves. Yelich played in 67 of the Brewers’ first 71 games this season, putting him on pace to appear in more than 150 games for just the second time in his eight years with the organization.

While the Brewers spent the weekend trying to get back into the National League playoff race, a storyline with ramifications for their long-term plans took a significant step forward in Nashville. When the Brewers have been going well this season it’s often revolved around All Star catcher and two-time MVP vote recipient William Contreras, who has earned a reputation as one of the game’s best backstops.

As we near the end of the month of May the Pirates, Orioles, White Sox and Rockies have a few things in common this MLB season. One is that they’re the four worst teams in baseball, with a combined record of 63-149. Another is that they’ve all already played the Brewers. Sunday’s 6-5 win over the Pirates in Pittsburgh improved the Brewers’ record to 8-5 in those games, which is to some extent covering for the fact that they’re 18-23 against everyone else.

Perhaps it's fitting that an article of compiled obituaries will also be my last article share on Twitter. Effective 1/1/25 I'm no longer posting here and moving over to the same handle on Bluesky. Thanks for following here, and hopefully I'll see you there.

The last piece I post each year is the longest and (to me at least) maybe the most important, as we take a moment to look back at those who passed away during the year. Thanks to @shepherdexpress for hosting it once again this year: https://t.co/r6vXNh69Ke

If the MLB offseason were a nine inning game, today we'd be starting the top of the second inning.
