June 2, 2025 In March of 2020, historian Nicole Martinez-LeGrand published an article on the Indiana Historical Society’s blog, titled The Lost Barrio of Indianapolis. The story shared the history of a small community of Mexican immigrants living on the east side of downtown Indianapolis during the mid-20th Century. That blog post inspired a new documentary directed by Martinez-Legrand, titled "Beyond el Barrio." The film is now streaming on the Indiana Historical Society’s YouTube page.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month; that’s why the Indianapolis-native, musician and activist Taylor Hall chose the month of May to release her latest collection of songs "Cheaper Than Therapy." During a recent conversation with WFYI’s Kyle Long, Hall said she hopes the project will help to destigmatize mental health, and provide her fans with a message of hope.

Love + Monsters features the work of Jad fair, an influential figure in underground indie rock music. He's best known for his work with Half Japanese, a band he co-founded in Uniontown, Maryland in 1974.

Todd Rundgren rose to prominence in the 1970s with hit records like “Hello, It’s Me” and “I Saw the Light.” Those songs have become staples of classic rock radio. Rundgren is also a prolific producer. He’s worked with a long list of artists, including Hall & Oates, Patti Smith, Grand Funk Railroad, Bad Religion, and Meatloaf, among many others.

His latest album, "Naptown Sound," pays tribute to the rich musical heritage of Indianapolis jazz. Allee will perform music from Naptown Sound live at The Jazz Kitchen on April 5. WFYI’s Kyle Long spoke with Allee about whether Indianapolis has its own sound.
