Red Wings RumblingsWelp, it’s over. The Red Wings gave a strong effort in last night’s loss to Montreal, which all but eliminated them from the playoffs. They’re technically in it still, but the chances are so slim that it’s not even worth wasting energy on. So we’re about a decade removed from Detroit’s last Stanley Cup Playoffs berth. That’s really depressing, especially when you consider that every other major team in the city of Detroit has gotten its act together. What’s wrong with this team?

Big game tonight. The Montreal Canadiens are the only team that currently stands in Detroit’s way for the second wild card spot in the Eastern Conference. The Red Wings are six points back from the Habs with one game in hand. A regulation win for Detroit would swing their playoff chances to “slim” while a loss in regulation would pretty much put a bow on this season. MoneyPuck dot com posted some numbers on social media that paints the picture of how important this game is for both teams.

Nice win over Carolina on Friday, now it’s on to an equally tough opponent in the Florida Panthers. Ideally the Red Wings will close out the remaining seven games with a total of 14 points, and maybe a playoff berth. This season has been less than ideal, however. Cam Talbot will get the start for Detroit tonight. Florida is missing several key players at the moment, so there is a chance for Talbot to steal his team two points.

According to a report from College Hockey News, Trey Augustine has informed the Detroit Red Wings that he intends to return to Michigan State University of the 2025-2026 season. Augustine, who turned 20 at the end of February, has been one of the best goaltenders in all of college hockey since he arrived in East Lansing two years ago. The South Lyon native has appeared in 65 games with MSU, sporting a record of 42-16-6, and a .919 SV % along with a 2.55 GAA.

Red Wings Rumblings A step in the right direction. Okay, so Boston isn’t the definition of “good team.” Still, a nice win for the Red Wings against the Bruins on Saturday. Marco Kasper got his 15th of the season, Cam Talbot had his best performance in a long time — an encouraging outcome. Detroit is still on the outside looking in, but the second wild card spot in the NHL’s Eastern Conference is still up for grabs.
