This is an opinion column. Sen. Katie Britt wants to know whether the president is fit to lead. Just not this president. Rather, she’s still worried about the last one. This week, the Senate Judiciary Committee held its first hearing looking into the cover-up of President Joe Biden’s cognitive decline while in office. There, and on TV afterward, Britt had a lot to say about ensuring our top officials stay in tip-top shape.

This is an opinion column. When Sandy Stimpson announced he wouldn’t seek another term as mayor of Mobile, he did so with a video. The message he shared then, last September, wasn’t a swan song or a goodbye letter, but something a lot closer to a hype trailer for one of this year’s Best Picture nominees at the Oscars. “The sunrise we see every morning over Mobile Bay is a reminder of God’s blessing and provision, for all that has come to be and for all that is to come,” Stimpson said.

This is an opinion column. A crowd of protestors crossed the street toward the U.S. Capitol to decry Donald Trump’s "Big Beautiful Bill," when the “Don’t Walk” signal cut the procession in two. There was no one else on the ballot. Qualifying doesn’t close until February, but this thing might have been done a week ago, when the closest person Tuberville had to a Republican primary opponent — Lt. Gov.

This is a column. In the middle of Alabama’s fraught congressional redistricting, a political consultant deeply involved in the process sent Alabama Sen. Steve Livingston, R-Scottsboro, a text message asking if they could meet. “Coming through?” the consultant, Chris Brown, who lives in Jefferson County, asked in 2023. “I’m clear the rest of the day.” Livingston, who co-chaired the state’s redistricting committee and was in the state capital, replied with three words.

Being governor is like being a coach, says man who was paid $5m to stop coaching. It's not. Being mayor is, but in Alabama, we don't reward effective city leaders with promotions. We prefer fools who entertain us, instead. 🎁🔗👇 https://t.co/tAlSjWNDAA https://t.co/ub11d9794D

Gavin Newsom and Tommy Tuberville are having a Twitter fight after Tuberville called for Newsom to be locked up.
