He was a member on a 1972 British expedition up the world’s tallest mountain, and the poster-sized map commemorates both his own trip and, through the signatures, some of the most influential mountaineers with ties to the mountain and its host country, Nepal. November may be long gone, but the Uncompahgre Valley is in the midst of a more electric election season as nine candidates vie for three positions on the Delta Montrose Electric Association’s Board of Directors. The election lasts until June 12, and residents of the districts for which seats are up for grabs can drop off their ballots at their local DMEA office or vote at the annual meeting June 12 at 4:30 p.m. at the Hotchkiss K-8 School.

Planet V in Naturita, Camp V’s annual camping music festival, blasted off and returned to earth for what might have been the last time Memorial Day weekend — at least, in its current form. But, Camp V co-founder Natalie Binder promised the 120-acre glamping resort and campground has more events in the works. And, campers can keep coming on their own to enjoy what she calls “one of the last wild places,” with dark skies and access to plenty of trails and water activities. kAmx?

Memorial Day weekend is, of course, the unofficial end of winter. Or, maybe it’s the unofficial start of summer. But that’s the same thing right? Hiking trails all around the Western Slope provide beautiful views, so it’s hard to blame recreationists if they don’t look down at the dirt itself.
