When I decided to go on a trip, being a new mum and having a family meant I couldn’t travel the same ways as I used to. I used to stay in a shared dormitory or on some stranger’s couch, hitchhiking or getting lost. My husband Ryan was not OK with this type of travel and maybe I was too old to be travelling that way anyway. So I decided to do my first organized tour with G Adventures. This tour was 10 days through Guatemala, Belize and Mexico.

Having a child means having to relearn old things. They don’t know how to eat or drink, or basically do anything useful. It’s rather impressive how useless human beings are as babies. Maverick is a very lucky boy; his mother (me) is Australian, and a dream, for most, became a reality for him at four months when we went to Australia. Before Maverick was born, my husband Ryan (fiance at the time) was supposed to come with me to visit my entire family in 2020. So, that didn’t happen. But this time, husband and baby in tow, the baby was much more the star of the show. However, I didn’t want to just visit my family.
