One Saturday morning, I was lying in bed mentally planning my day. I had an afternoon shift in the ED, and beforehand, a stranger was coming by to pick up a piece of furniture I was selling online. I recall going through an unnecessarily lengthy decision-making process about whether to put on scrubs right away because wearing scrubs would inevitably lead to an uncomfortable Q&A about my job with the random Facebook Marketplace furniture buyer.

Age is a funny thing. Part of my practice involves cosmetic surgery, injectables, lasers — the works. And more than nose jobs or hair restoration or skin resurfacing, people come in seeking help with turning back the clock. They hope for wrinkles to vanish, hollowness to plump, plumpness to tighten. There are gizmos, gadgets, and potions galore promising the return of youth. Others in my field build their whole careers on beating back the signs of aging and restoring the vigor of youth.

Can AI Cure Physician Burnout? It’s 9 p.m. I’ve been home for a few hours. The dishes are done, the children are in bed, even the dogs are asleep. I open my laptop to do the two things common to many of us: finish clinic notes and sort through the inbox of patient questions, requests, and communications. For those of you who this does not apply to, I applaud you. But it is a statistical majority of physicians who do bring work home.
