Whether these resolutions are to save money, lose weight, travel more or simply be kinder, they have become customary for many people. While some people laugh off the impact of these resolutions, believing they never last, these goals can be very powerful. New year’s resolutions help us reflect on our lives, drive us to take action, foster a positive outlook and encourage accountability.

John Hebert, CHS’s former head football coach, recently stepped down after an exceptional 30-year tenure at the school. Over the course of his 10 years as head coach, Hebert led the football team to two state championships and six regional titles, cementing his legacy as an immensely successful coach in the program’s history. However, while Hebert’s athletic and in-game accomplishments are widely recognized, it is his impact beyond the field which has left a lasting impression.

Alexandra “Alex” Shackell, Olympic swimmer and senior, started competitive swimming when she was only 6 years old, after she said her parents had encouraged her to join. She ended up loving the sport, and now has practice 10 times every week. But while it was her parents who got her started in swimming, now she said she feels the most pressure to perform from herself. “Obviously I want to make my family, teammates and coaches proud, but most of the pressure I feel is internal,” Shackell said.
