Abstract The mucus on the bronchial wall forms a thin layer of non-Newtonian fluid, protecting the lungs by capturing inhaled pollutants. Due to the corrugation of its interface with air, this layer is subject to surface tension forces that affect its rheology. This physical system is analyzed using lubrication theory and three-dimensional simulations.

AbstractWe recall some recent results concerning the Initial Value Problem of 1d-cubic non-linear Schrödinger equation (NLS) and other related systems as the Schrödinger Map. For the latter we prove the existence of a cascade of energy. Finally, some new examples of the Talbot effect at the critical level of regularity are given.

Granular flows occur in various contexts, including laboratory experiments, industrial processes, and natural geophysical flows. To investigate their dynamics, different kinds of physically based models have been developed. These models can be characterized by the length scale at which dynamic processes are described.
