Val Kilmer passed on April 1, 2025. He was 65. If you’re reading this here on BOF, you most likely think of Val Kilmer as one of the Batmen (Batmans?) on film — the one who succeeded Michael Keaton. And that’s fair because my affection for him is primarily due to his turn as The Dark Knight in BATMAN FOREVER. But I was a fan of Val way before he donned the cape and cowl.

Well, this is either a brilliant or very bad idea. Maybe it’s something else entirely. Per reports, Paul Dano has been cast as Thomas Elliot in THE BATMAN: PART II. Yes, you read that correctly. Dano will also reprise his role as Edward Nashton/The Riddler in the film. Edward Nashton and Thomas Elliot will be portrayed as twin brothers who were separated when their father, Edward Elliot, was murdered.

Heath Ledger as The Joker in THE DARK KNIGHT is the greatest performance as a villain in the history of superhero cinema. Furthermore, he gave us one of the best performances in the history of film, period. PERIOD. Here’s what Michael Caine wrote about working with Heath on THE DARK KNIGHT in his new memoir, DON’T LOOK BACK, YOU’LL TRIP OVER: MY GUIDE TO LIFE…The smeared makeup, the weird hair, the strange voice. It was chilling.

Certainly not trying to beat a dead horse or pile on since Ben Affleck’s main run as Batman (BATMAN v SUPERMAN, the JUSTICE LEAGUE films, and various DCEU cameos) ended long ago. But this is Batman On Film, and since Affleck has decided to talk again about his Batman on film run, I decided BOF needed to run a story on it. In a new interview with GQ, Affleck discussed his experience playing Batman…There are a number of reasons why that was a really excruciating experience.

As the first story arc of ABSOLUTE BATMAN, titled “The Zoo,” comes to an end, make no mistake: The inaugural tale of the ABSOLUTE version of Batman concludes, there ain’t no slowing down…at all. ABSOLUTE BATMAN #6 picks up essentially where the previous issue left off. Batman had gotten a bit too cocky and overconfident and ended up getting his ass handed to him by Roman Sioni. In addition to the physical beating, Black Mask outwits him and turns Batman’s plan on its head.
