On Tuesday, the Senate Select Committee on Adopting Artificial Intelligence tabled a report on the “opportunities and impacts” coming from Australia’s uptake of AI. The 222-page report raised 13 key recommendations on the domestic adoption of AI, with notable consideration given to the definition and treatment of “high-risk” use of AI. The committee suggested government include general-purpose AI models, such as large language models (LLMs), in a list of “high-risk AI uses”.

Western Sydney cultivated meat startup Vow, best known for its “woolly mammoth meatball“, has launched in a second Asian city, with a new product resembling the French delicacy foie gras. The release of Forged Gras as a cell-based meat tackles one of the key ethical issues in foie gras production, gavage, the force-feeding of ducks and geese to create the fatty, swollen liver that is foie gras. Its production is banned in many countries, including Australia.
