For two talented Class of 2027 basketball recruits, their time is now. Tyrone Jamison’s elite floor general skills helped lead Calvary Baptist to its fifth state championship game in six seasons. Caroline Bradley’s dominance in the post got Oak Grove one step closer to a long-awaited state championship as it reached the state championship game for the first time since 2010.

The 2024 football season was quite memorable for two Panther teams. Bunkie was one win shy of advancing to the LHSAA Prep Classic, but it matched its best season finish with its first semifinal trip since 1988. Sterlington overcame a 2-3 start and rallied to win the Division III non-select title, where it defeated St. James. Representatives of both teams earned top honors on the 2024 Louisiana Sports Writers Association Clas 3A All-State Team, as selected by sportswriters across the state.

Alexandria wanted to make a statement and it did just that Friday. The Trojans defeated Destrehan 45-27 at J.L. “Butch” Stoker Stadium to down the Wildcats. “We really controlled the first half,” Alexandria coach Thomas Bachman said. “It could have been a wider margin, and we needed it to be a wider margin with how explosive their receivers are. But I’m proud of the kids for playing with a program of that quality.

Calvary’s Ramsey Walker and St. Charles’ Brady St. Pierre earned Outstanding Player honors in Class 2A All-State softball and baseball, respectively, by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association. Houma Christian softball’s Christi Crowdus and Oak Grove baseball’s Ty Rollinson received Coaches of the Year honors from a panel of sportswriters from across the state. Walker played a vital role in the Cavaliers winning their fourth championship in a row by hitting .583 with 22 home runs and 65 RBI.

PINEVILLE — TheLouisiana’s girls and boys high school basketball seasons ended over the past two weekends. But there were two final games for a few senior standouts on Saturday — the annual LHSCA/LHSBCA all-star games at Louisiana Christian's H.O. West Field House. The West squad won both games. It took some time for the boys all-stars to find their footing in the first game. Ultimately, the West claimed a 90-84 victory over the East. Game MVP Da’shawn Ceaser of Iowa had 13 points.
