Those who know me know that I love happy endings. Being in rescue you celebrate the happy endings and wow do I have a happy ending with a cat named Scotty. On May 29, I received a call at 7:00 a.m. from Jason. He is a distant cousin of mine, and I helped him out with 2 stray cats back in January. Jason lives in a very small-town northeast of York. As in many small towns there are almost as many feral cats as there are people, and I am not exaggerating.

Never say never. I said I would never foster newborn kittens several years back. Newborn kittens are such a huge gamble. Especially if they are orphaned newborns. They receive nutrients including colostrum from their mother’s milk and if they don’t receive this due to being orphaned, the battle is uphill. You can do everything right and overnight you can see a healthy kitten’s health plunge into sudden failure.

York Adopt is much more than “just” an animal shelter. If our walls could speak, they would be able to tell you of the compassion, love, happiness and tragic sadness that has occurred within the walls of YAAP. Since opening our new shelter April 10, 2010, there have been literally thousands of dogs and cats that have crossed and sometimes crisscrossed our threshold. I have seen high five’s when volunteers celebrate the adoption of a cat that has waited for several years.

For years, I have had the privilege of volunteering at York Adopt-A-Pet. Here are some of the awesome cats and kittens available. If one catches your eye, go to www.yorkadoptapet.com or call LaMoine at 402-366-0533. Every cat that passes through our doors leaves a paw print on your heart. Annie came in with five babies. The babies were tiny, and Annie was thin and lethargic. Although I supplemented their feedings with KMR, they were just too weak to survive.
