    Charlotte Catholic senior Will Hartman is The Charlotte Observer boys' golfer of the year for the third time. Hartman won the 2025 award after capping his career with his second NCHSAA 4A state championship at Pinehurst No. 8 last month. In the final round, Hartman shot a 7-under-par 65 and made a birdie on the final hole of his high school career. Hartman swept the season's most important events, also winning the 4A west regional with a 69, and the Southwestern 4A conference title, shooting a 64.

    Charlotte Christian senior Evan Boykin is The Charlotte Observer's boys' track runner of the year after finishing his high school track career with a record-breaking performance at the NCISAA Division I state championships. Boykin ran a 4A state meet record 10:47 seconds to win the 100-meter dash, won the 200 state title and ran on two relay state champions - 4x100-meter relay (40.78) and 4x400-meter relay (3:18.01).

    Independence High senior Maya Love is the 2025 All-Observer girls' track athlete of the year. The Charlotte Observer's regional coverage area includes more than 100 schools in Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Gaston, Iredell, LIncoln and Union counties. Love, a South Carolina recruit, won NCHSAA 4A state titles in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash and also ran on Independence's state championship 400-meter relay team.

A standout middle infielder on a 2023 Hickory Ridge softball team that reached the state championship series, Embler was ready to make a change when coach Justin Davies needed it. "We needed a pitcher after Anna left," Embler said, referring to Anna Dew, a pitching standout on that 2023 team and now at Elon University.
