Johnny Cardoso became the first U.S. men’s national team player to start a European Final on Wednesday but unfortunately that was as far as the accolades went in Poland. Cardoso played 85 minutes for Real Betis against Chelsea but watched as the Blues won the UEFA Europa Conference League Final 4-1. Chelsea became the first club to won all four of UEFA’s competitions in the process.

Mauricio Pochettino has been forced into his first June roster change since announcing his 27-player roster. Goalkeeper Chris Brady has been named to the June roster, U.S. Soccer announced Wednesday. Brady will replace Columbus Crew goalkeeper Patrick Schulte, who recently was sidelined with an oblique injury. A product of the Chicago Fire Academy, Brady earned his first callup to the senior national team.

Antonee Robinson’s busy season with Fulham has led to the defender undergoing surgery in preparation for the new campaign. Robinson underwent successful minor knee surgery on Wednesday, Fulham announced. The U.S. men’s national team left back will now begin rehabilitation and is expected to be ready for the 2025-26 season. “We wish Antonee all the best during his recovery in the close season,” Fulham said in a club statement.

St. Louis CITY SC’s first-half struggles have led to a coaching change. Olof Mellberg has been relieved of his duties as head coach, the MLS club announced Tuesday. Current CITY2 head coach, David Critchley will assume first team manager responsibilities while the club searches for a new head coach. “The decision to part ways with Olof goes beyond just results,” said CITY SC Sporting Director Lutz Pfannenstiel.

LAFC legend Carlos Vela has officially hung up his professional playing boots. Vela announced his official retirement today after a 19-year career, the Mexican international revealed on social media. The 35-year-old will remain with LAFC as the club’s first Black & Gold Ambassador and will be honored by the MLS side on September 21. “Helping to build LAFC and winning trophies for the club is a highlight of my career,” Vela said.
