    Sarsfields hurling club on Saturday unveiled the new statue to club and Cork legend Teddy McCarthy, on the day the club's base in Riverstown was officialy renamed in his honour as Páirc Tadhg Mac Cárthaigh. Taoiseach Micheál Martin and GAA president Jarlath Burns were among those present for the unveiling, as the iconic dual star was remembered in stories and song.

    Former Ireland international and Cork Hibernians legend John Herrick has died, aged 78. With Hibs, Herrick won the League of Ireland Championship in 1971, and the FAI Cup and Blaxnit All-Ireland trophies in 1972. A tough but clean defender, his performances with Hibs made him the club's first full international, playing for Ireland against Chile in 1971. In all, he made three appearances for the Republic, travelling to Brazil on the 1972 tour for the Brazil Independence Cup.

    Supervalu Páirc Uí Chaoimh will host a meeting of Cork City and Celtic in the inaugural 'Cork Super Cup' on Tuesday, July 8th. The game will kick off at 6pm. The fixture will be the third soccer game to be staged at the historic Cork grounds. Launching the fixture, Kevin O’Donovan, CEO of Cork GAA, said the joint venture with the two clubs and marketing agency Druid Sport will generate funding to reinvest in the stadium and Gaelic games.

    Devastating news arrived on Sunday morning that the family of National Hunt jockey Michael O'Sullivan have confirmed his death at Cork University Hospital. The Cheltenham-winning jockey, 25, suffered a fall at the Thurles meeting on February 6th and on Sunday succumbed to his injuries. As a mark of respect, racing at Punchestown on Sunday has been cancelled along with today's Point to Point fixtures.
