But even with what many consider a more ag-friendly scene in Washington, D.C., NCBA officials indicated they would keep fighting to prevent ranch-robbing federal regulations and bad policy from stampeding out of control. About 8,500 people attended CattleCon ’25 in San Antonio.

His dad, Robby, advised him on how to handle the situation – just like his father, Perry, helped guide him through feedyard management nearly 30 years ago. Robby has had the reins for a few years now. He leads a team of about 30 employees at Kirkland Feedyard in Vega, Texas. It’s a family-owned and operated yard with a feeding capacity of 29,000 head.

However, with high feeder heifer prices, will producers keep sending more heifers to feedlots rather than retain them for replacements? Will they be able to buy replacements back and at what price? Murphy made the higher replacement projections at last fall’s Texas Cattle Feeders Association meeting.
