SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Eric and Lyle Mendendez have been housed at Donovan State Correctional Facility together for about 7 years, but they've been in prison for over 30 years for the murder of their parents, Jose and Kitty Menendez. Thursday morning, they appeared virtually in court in Los Angeles for what was supposed to be day one of their resentencing hearing. The hearing was postponed to a future date. ABC 10News spoke to a criminal defense attorney to discuss the resentencing process.

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Elephants are all people seem to be talking about after Monday's 5.2 magnitude earthquake near Julian. An incredible video that has now gone viral shows elephants at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park creating an 'alert circle' during the earthquake. Tuesday, ABC 10News went up to the safari park to find out why the elephants reacted the way they did. According to experts, it's an instinctive behavior meant to protect the young and the entire herd from threats.

San Diego Border Patrol agents have been deployed to help. Ten members of the sector's Mobile Response Team (MRT) were deployed last weekend. The agents were sent to Arkansas and Tennessee.

TIJUANA, Mexico (KGTV) — A California inmate is on the run, wanted in connection with the death of a Mexican police commander in Tijuana, who was killed in a shootout with the suspect on Wednesday. The female agent killed was part of a task force that hunts U.S. fugitives south of the border. The shootout happened Wednesday in Tijuana in a neighborhood about 15 miles south of the San Ysidro Port of Entry. The accused killer had been on the run since December.

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The legal status of thousands of migrants allowed into the US while their asylum claims play out is now up in the air. The Trump administration now says they have to go. The migrants all used a Biden-era app called 'CBP One'. The Department of Homeland Security announced the move on Monday. The CBP One app was how the Biden administration wanted people to request asylum.
